About Me

Hey! My name is Aitana. Welcome to my Epicodus programming portfolio.

As a teenager, I learned to code HTML and CSS in order to make my own websites. I loved the creativity and problem-solving behind it, and was thrilled at the idea of making something of my own on the web.

After high school, I got a Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Portland where I worked on research about the behavior of a small, six-rayed sea star called Leptasterias spp. During this time, I utilized my love for programming in several classes, including a Computational Biology course where I used Python to analyze genetic data.

I was initially planning on continuing my academic career and applying for graduate school, but realized with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic that I really valued spending time at home with my partner and our dog. I felt academia was not right for me and desired a steady, remote job that I was passionate about. After speaking to developer friends and Epicodus alumni, I decided to take the plunge and enroll in Epicodus's full-time bootcamp.

Title Description Languages GitHub Repository
Taking a Trip to the Mysterious Flesh Pit Taking a Trip to the Mysterious Flesh Pit is a mock vacation site for the fictional Mystery Flesh Pit National Park, a concept created by Trevor Roberts. I created this website for Epicodus' vacation assignment. The objective was to utilize Bootstrap to stylize a travel guide for a place of your choice. The website features Bootstrap design elements, including the jumbotron div, stylized unordered lists, blockquotes, and a navigation bar. HTML/CSS fleshpit-vacation
Moray Dentistry Moray Denistry is a mock website designed for the care and cleaning of Moray eel teeth. It is for the fictional dentistry clinic of the same name, made by and for moray eels (family Muraenidae). Dental technicians, such as Samantha the cleaner shrimp, are mentioned in the About page. We created this website to emulate an existing dental clinic webpage for coding and git practice. HTML/CSS moray-dentistry
The Unicorn Project The Unicorn Project is a shelter for the care and adoption of mythological creatures, such as unicorns, created for an Epicodus project. We utilized floating divs to create columns for each creature's photo, name, and personal bio. HTML/CSS the-unicorn-project
Dinolandia Dinolandia is a mock resort website created for Epicodus's resort assignment. We decided to build a site for the fictional "Dinolandia," a resort located off the coast of Argentina with real-live dinosaurs. HTML/CSS dinolandia
Pet Website Pet Website was the second website I helped create in Epicodus's program. This was a collaboration wherein photos and information about each of our pets was added, along with photos, headings, and lists (both ordered and unordered). HTML/CSS my-second-webpage

Interests & Hobbies

A photo of me and my dog Argus on a river beach after a hike.

When I'm not coding, I like to participate in dog sports with my two hounds, hike with friends, explore tidepools on the coast, and read fantasy and sci-fi books.

I dabble in dog photography and graphic design and am particularly involved with my dogs' breed club, the International Society of Silken Windhounds.
